Experience more frequent breakthroughs and longer lasting improvements in your symptoms.

If you’ve tried traditional therapy before but never experienced the kind of lasting results you’d hoped for, Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy can help you access your unconscious emotions and relieve you of your suffering.

WHAT IT IS

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is a holistic modality that uses psychotherapy in conjunction with a psychedelic medication called Ketamine to help you gain rapid and sustained relief from symptoms associated with issues such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, and other conditions.

Unlike psychotropic medications and traditional talk therapy, KAP can work very quickly to bring about major breakthroughs.

HOW IT WORKS

I offer Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) in partnership with an organization called Journey Clinical.

Journey Clinical’s medical team supports you on all medical aspects of the treatment. This includes determining eligibility, developing a custom treatment plan, prescribing the medicine and monitoring outcomes.

Using a body-focused, relational approach called AEDP, I provide the psycotherapeutic portion of the Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy, working with you to help you process your experience with the drug.

KAP and AEDP are complementary modalities that are very effective when used in conjunction with one another.

THE PROCESS
  • I will refer you to Journey Clinical, where a member of the medical team will determine if you are a good candidate for Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy. If so, they’ll come up with the proper dose for you.

You and I will discuss how many times you would like to take it—most do between 6-12 sessions.

Next, Journey Clinical will prescribe the Ketamine, and teach you how to self-administer it.

  • Next, we’ll schedule your first preparation, dosing, and integration sessions.

During the preparation session, we will discuss what will take place during the ketamine session and set your intentions for treatment.

  • During a dosing session, you will come to my office and take the medicine in a comfortable setting and let your mind go where it takes you for an hour or two

These sessions usually last between 2 and 3 hours, and I’ll be there (either in person or virtually) to support you the entire time.

  • The next day, you and I will meet for “Integration.” I’ll work with you to process and unpack what you discover during your dosing session(s) in order to help you get unstuck from old patterns, develop new beliefs about yourself, and solidify the breakthroughs you experienced.

  • After your initial KAP dosing session, you will have ongoing medical follow-ups with Journey Clinical, as needed, for the duration of your KAP treatment plan.

They will schedule regular follow-ups with you to monitor your outcomes, refill your prescription as needed.

FAQ

What is Ketamine?

Ketamine is a legal, safe and effective medicine used to treat a variety of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety and PTSD. Ketamine has rapidly- acting antidepressant and mood-enhancing effects, which can begin to take effect within 1-2 hrs. after treatment. It works by blocking the brain’s NMDA receptors as well as by stimulating AMPA receptors, which are thought to help form new synaptic connections and boost neural circuits that regulate stress and mood. Ketamine has also been shown to enhance overall neuroplasticity for lasting symptom improvement.

Ketamine can be administered in a variety of ways, including IV infusion, intramuscular injection, via nasal spray and using sublingual lozenges. In my work with Journey Clinical we only use the sublingual lozenge form.

How Does Ketamine Feel?

The effects of ketamine, which most patients find pleasant, last for approximately 45 minutes. These effects can make you feel “far from” your body, and facilitate shifts in perception that can often feel expansive in nature. Your motor and verbal abilities will be reduced, so you’ll be lying down in a comfortable position during the experience.

Once these effects subside, we’ll spend the remainder of our appointment giving you space to process and discuss your experience. While it may feel hard to articulate what happens during the experience, patients feel like the insights gained are clear.

What if I have a bad experience?

Some journeys are energizing, uplifting and mood enhancing while others can be quite dark. Just remember there are no bad journeys and they are all of equal importance as long as you are surrendering to the medicine. Some clients might find some journeys frightening, but you will be able to make major breakthroughs through the integration sessions with me no matter what your journey was like.

I have worked with a Ketamine-Assisted psychotherapist and found it tremendously helpful—so much so that I decided to integrate KAP into my work. I have experienced frightening journeys that, in the end, made me feel so much relief once I had my integration session with my therapist.

I know Ketamine can sound intimidating, but if you let go, relax, and trust the medicine, you will be able to experience freedom from anxiety and self-judgment and begin to form new beliefs about yourself.
